macのターミナルで Pythonのバージョン確認をしたくてpython -vと入力した

＜目的＞
現在どのような状態なのか知りたい

macのターミナルで Pythonのバージョン確認をしたくて、
python -vと入力したら下記のような表示がでました。
バージョンを見たかっただけなのですが、これはどのような意味なのでしょうか？

また、最後が　>>>
となっていまして、こちらについてもどのような意味なのか、ご教示いただけると幸いです。

バージョンをみるなら-V。
-vはverbose (trace import statements)という、importの詳細を表示するオプション。
>>>は対話環境のプロンプト。

         can be supplied multiple times to increase verbosity
-V     : print the Python version number and exit (also --version)
         when given twice, print more information about the build

バージョンを調べるなら
python --version
としてください。

python --help
で -v の意味を調べることができます。

＞＞＞ と表示されるのはインタープリターモード (REPL) に入っていることを示しています。
exit() か CTRL-D で抜けることができます。
