Ubuntu16.04にて、カーネルパッケージ(Linux-generic)のインストール後OS再起動に失敗する

Question

前提・実現したいこと

Ubuntu16.04LTSにて、必要なソフトウェアのインストール前提としてカーネルパッケージをインストールする必要があるのですが、インストール後の再起動に失敗しています。raid？ディスク割当？周りのエラーに見えるのですが、ググりながら調査するもどうにも解読できません。
知見をお持ちの方いらっしゃらないでしょうか。

発生している問題・エラーメッセージ

①AWS EC2にてUbuntu 16.04.6を起動
※AMIはマーケットプレイスで提供の「ubuntu-xenial-16.04-amd64-server-20200729 (ami-0edf7f6a9013cfb72)」

②以下のカーネルパッケージをインストール

③再起動。以下のエラーによりOS起動失敗

 - Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
   - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
   - Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?)
 - Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
