Rails bundleでエラーが発生して前に進めません

Question

前提・実現したいこと

Rails6でツイート投稿アプリを制作しています。
タグ機能をつけたいと思いacts-as-taggable-onを導入するために

gem 'acts-as-taggable-on', '~> 6.0'

とGemfileに記述してbundleしたのですが、下記のエラーが発生しました。

発生している問題・エラーメッセージ

Bundler could not find compatible versions for gem "activerecord":
  In snapshot (Gemfile.lock):
    activerecord (= 6.0.0)

  In Gemfile:
    acts-as-taggable-on (~> 6.0) was resolved to 6.0.0, which depends on
      activerecord (~> 5.0)

    rails (~> 6.0.0) was resolved to 6.0.0, which depends on
      activerecord (= 6.0.0)

Running `bundle update` will rebuild your snapshot from scratch, using only
the gems in your Gemfile, which may resolve the conflict.

試したこと

gem 'acts-as-taggable-on'

バージョンを指定せず上記のように書くとすんなりインストールされるので、最初の段階ではそうして臭い物に蓋をしていたのですが、NoMethodErrorに出くわしてその原因がどうやらここをサボったせいなようです、、、。

Compatibility
Versions 2.x are compatible with Ruby 1.8.7+ and Rails 3.

Versions 2.4.1 and up are compatible with Rails 4 too (thanks to arabonradar and cwoodcox).

Versions >= 3.x are compatible with Ruby 1.9.3+ and Rails 3 and 4.

Versions >= 4.x are compatible with Ruby 2.0.0+ and Rails 4 and 5.

と、ある通り
現在、公開されているバージョンではRails6には対応していません。

アプリごとrails6から5へバージョンを下げることは可能ですか？
タグ機能を自力で作った方が早いでしょうか。

不可能と思ってもらって結構です。
Rails5で新しく作り直して各種コントローラー・モデルなどを手動でコピーして…
などとやれば、動く可能性自体はありますが
簡単なことではないでしょうし、確実にバグなく動くか？というと疑問を持たざるをえず
他人に薦める事はできません。
