xampp MySQLに繋がらない

前提・実現したいこと

MySQLにつなげたい

発生している問題・エラーメッセージ

試したこと

・ポート番号の確認　→3306で正しかった
・XAMPP再インストール　→変化なし
・このような記事を見つけました。C:\xampp\mysql\data にアクセスると、この記事に掲載されているファイルより大量のファイルがありました。（INFOファイルでできた数字ばかり書かれたファイル　master-2020@のような…）　→記事の通りファイルを全消ししたら使えるようになった。

ここで質問になるのですが、
dataファイルは何を保存しているファイルなのでしょうか？？
