cygwinのterminalだとデバッグができないです

Question

前提・実現したいこと

cygwinのterminalにおいて、gdbコマンドを用いてデバッグを行いたいです。コンパイルで実行ファイルは作成されるものの、次のような結果が出力されます。

発生している問題・エラーメッセージ

not in executable format: File format not recognized

gdbコマンドを実行した後、最後にこの一文が出力されます。コンパイルの流れを下に載せました。

疑問点

通常のWindowsにあるコマンドプロンプトを使うと成功するのですが、なぜcygwinを使うと実行ファイルがあるのにないと認識されてしまうかがわからないです。

以下に、Windowsのコマンドプロンプトを用いてgdbコマンドに成功した様子を載せます。

$ gcc apple.c -ggdb -o a.exe
$ gdb a.exe

cygwinの他に、MinGWもインストールされていませんか？ MinGW用のgdbが起動されているようです。

This GDB was configured as "mingw32".

cygwin版のgdbですと、この表記が以下のようになります。(32ビット版の例)

This GDB was configured as "i686-pc-cygwin".

mingwでビルドされた実行ファイルとcygwinでビルドされたものでは実行ファイルの形式が違うので、そのようなエラーになっているのだと思われます。cygwinのsetupを起動して、cygwin版のgdb をインストールしてください。

インストールしてもサーチPATHの問題でcygwin用のgdbが起動しない場合は、環境変数PATHから
mingwのPATHを除外するか、/usr/bin/gdb と直接、cygwinのgdbの絶対PATHを指定すれば良いと思います。

# cygwinのterminalにて
$ which gdb
/usr/bin/gdb

$ /usr/bin/gdb a.exe
