Vagrantで共有フォルダが適用されない

Question

前提・実現したいこと

Vagrantで /home/rails というディレクトリの下に共有フォルダを作りたいです。

イメージとしては下記のようになる感じです。
[Mac側] ~/proguram/mysite
[仮想マシン側] /home/rails/mysite

発生している問題・エラーメッセージ

Vagrantはエラーなく起動するが、共有フォルダが適用されません。
以前試しに /mysite /root/mysite という共有を試したせいなのか、 ls / すると、?root ?mysite などの謎のディレクトリが残ります。
/home/rails の設定がうまくいってないせいか、 ?home  もいます。

試したこと

/home/rails を755のパーミッションに変更(手動)
owner　group を vagrant root にしてそれぞれ実行
config.vm.synced_folder '.', '/vagrant', disabled: true を追加

補足情報（FW/ツールのバージョンなど）

Vagrant 2.1.1
virtualbox 5.2.12 r122591 (Qt5.6.3)

/home/rails にできないならできないでいいのですが、会社で配布されたものではそのディレクトリでできているので、なぜできていないのか謎です。
(もしかしたらOSのバージョンが違うからかもですが…)

こちらは質問に貼られた vagrantfile の問題の部分を Sublime Text にコピペしたときの画像です。
BSという表示があるのが判ります。

これは BackSpace という制御文字がこの部分に挿入されているということです。
この手の特殊な文字は普通のテキストエディタだと文字として表示されないことがあるので、紛れ込んでしまった場合にしばしばトラブルの元になります。
お使いのテキストエディタで削除できないようなら、ターミナルから vi などで開いたときに ^H のように表示されるので、その部分を削除することで対応できます。
